Our Modern Day Heroes

Our Modern Day Heroes

Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.”

Genesis 2:7

Created in His Image:

From the creation of the world God has placed a great importance on man, placing him over all living creatures. And he has given a special charge to Fathers.  Although Fathers do not carry life as mothers do, they still share an incredible bond with their child from the moment of conception. From the moment they hear those words “I’m pregnant”, their lives, like mothers, begins to change drastically. “Now I have the responsibility of caring for another life”.  Life as they know it will never be the same.  From that moment God gives Fathers a new charge and many have risen to the occasion.

Walking in the Call:

To young boys, Fathers are their first coach, their first mentor, their first role model. In the first years of a young man’s life our Fathers have great influence because their sons are watching their Fathers closely, which helps them determine the kind of man they will be. To young girls, Fathers are their first love, their protectors, the man they will measure all other men too.  And Fathers have answered the call when they are right there by our sides saying you can do it son, or you are a beautiful princess to their daughters. And as God gave mothers that innate ability to nurture, He gave Father’s the courage to be our providers and our protectors. In short, they are our modern-day Heroes. And yes, there may be those who for one reason or another, have chosen to walk away from their responsibilities, but God in His love for us, has given us those who have become “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows…” and those are our Spiritual Fathers. Men who have accepted the challenge to stand in the gap for those that are absent to say the words our children need to hear: “You can do it son” and “Yes you are special my daughter.” And although they may not have planted the seed of life, their love for their sons and daughters in the gospel, runs as deep as any natural Fathers could. And they too rise to the occasion to be that modern-day Hero so desperately needed.

Heroes to be Honored:

As we approach Father’s Day, let’s give honor to the men who have accepted the call. And to the absent Fathers, we honor as well, as declared in God’s word, Honor thy Father and thy mother”, for the task of being a provider and our protector is not an easy one. So, we thank you Lord for our natural Fathers, the adoptive Fathers and our Spiritual Fathers- Our Modern-day Heroes.

Happy Father’s Day
